Dubai: Hundreds of commuters and motorists were stuck in major traffic jams during the morning rush hours on Monday as the UAE’s dusty weather continued, but flights operating in and out of Dubai have returned to normal.
Residents experienced some serious delays on roads, especially those travelling from Sharjah to Dubai, with gridlocks stretching more than seven kilometres on major thoroughfares.
As of 9.05am, Dubai-bound vehicles plying the Al Ittihad highway were stuck in traffic with tailbacks stretching more than four kilometres from Safeer Mall in Sharjah to Al Mulla Plaza in Dubai.
Longer traffic jams were also experienced on highways outside the city centre, especially on the Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed road, were tailbacks spanned more than seven kilometres.
At Dubai International Airport, operations have returned to normal after a number of flights were delayed on Sunday because of unstable weather.
As of 9am, only two flights, inbound and outbound, were delayed, according to Dubai Airports’ flight tracker.
A spokesperson for flydubai said their schedule is now back to normal. Up to 20 trips operated by the Dubai-based budget carrier and at least ten more flights operated by other airlines were delayed on Sunday afternoon as blowing dust swept through UAE and hampered visibility.
Etihad Airways and Emirates said that their flight operations have not been affected by unstable weather.
