A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the American University in Dubai (AUD) and the Georgia Institute of Technology in the U.S. to establish a School of Engineering at the Dubai university.

Academic administrators and selected faculty members from Georgia Tech's College of Engineering will provide assistance in AUD's efforts to establish a world-class School of Engineering.

AUD Executive Vice-President Elias BouSaab said the university's engineering programmes will be aligned with those of highly regarded U.S. undergraduate engineering programmes, such as those of Georgia Tech.

It was also agreed that AUD engineering students will have the opportunity to participate in Georgia Tech's summer programmes and AUD will recruit prominent faculty members for its School of Engineering under the scrutiny of Georgia Tech.

Representatives from Georgia Tech, consisting of six senior faculty and administrative officers, will visit AUD in mid-February to finalise the adaptation of the curricula to the requirements of the UAE.

Georgia Tech is one of the largest engineering institutions in the U.S. with an enrolment of 9,000. Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) has approved the membership of Zayed University's College of Education.

AACTE is the principal association for college and university leaders with responsibility for educator preparation. Membership will allow the Zayed University College of Education to benefit from the wide AACTE network of information resources. It will enable the college to have access to information on education policy at the national, regional and state levels, which the AACTE gathers and disseminates.
