Sharjah: In an endeavour to boost the performance of roadways in the UAE, the Sharjah Research Academy recently hosted a joint seminar with Sharjah Engineering Research Institute of the University of Sharjah on ‘Development of New Asphalt Mix Design Specifications’ at Sharjah Research Academy.

Industry leaders, experts from academia and government, and materials suppliers discussed successful modified asphalt projects as well as advances in technology that can eventually help in updating the current asphalt mix design specifications to meet the industry needs, especially under the local harsh climate and traffic conditions.

The seminar was spearheaded by eight speakers. It included insights from experts such as Dr Gazi Al Khateeb and Dr Waleed Zeiada from University of Sharjah; Dr Mohammad Al Basyouny from Parsons and Abhijit Upadhye from Richmond Group, among others.

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Amr Abdul Hamid, director-general of Sharjah Research Academy, thanked His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his support and encouragement, and also thanked the seminar attendees for their interest in the development of the asphalt industry in Sharjah and the UAE.
