Dubai: Rajinikanth is bringing an Onam touch to the world of ‘Jailer 2’ with ‘Ala Bolelo’, the film’s first song, released on Friday.

Composed and sung by Anirudh Ravichander, the upbeat dance track features Rajinikanth alongside Malayalam actor Shamna Kasim. The four-minute lyrical video blends Tamil cinema’s mass appeal with Kerala-inspired visuals, with Shamna seen dancing in a traditional kasavu saree.

Rajinikanth makes an appearance in the video, seemingly enjoying the performance, adding to the festive mood of the song.

Actress and dancer Shamna Kasim is married to Dubai-based businessman Shanid Asif Ali. Known for her dance performances, she also runs her own dance studio in Dubai, offering classical and semi-classical dance training.

The track was released ahead of Onam, particularly targeting fans in Kerala, where the original ‘Jailer’ developed a strong following. Arunraja Kamaraj has penned the lyrics, while Niranjana Raman, Aparna Harikumar and Deepthi Suresh provide additional vocals.

However, the song had already sparked discussion online after short promotional clips were released earlier this week. Some Malayalam-speaking viewers criticised the pronunciation of Malayalam words and questioned why a Malayali singer and lyricist were not involved in an Onam-themed song.

The song also drew attention for a few perceived visual errors in its promotional material, including a backup dancer appearing to move in the opposite direction from the rest of the group.

‘Jailer 2’ is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures—Rajinikanth returns as ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan reprising her role as Vijaya Pandian.

The sequel also features Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik, while Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff are expected to return in cameo appearances.

The film is scheduled for release on October 15.
