Indian actor Tiger Shroff involved in shooting incident in Mumbai
Actor is unhurt but two others, including his driver, are reportedly injured
Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after three to four rounds were fired at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, police said. His driver sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, while another person was also injured.
The shots were fired as Shroff was leaving a ground where he had been playing football. A crowd had gathered to see the actor at the time.
The driver was taken to Nanavati Hospital for treatment. The other injured person was reportedly an autorickshaw driver. Police have not disclosed the severity of the injuries.
Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams to investigate the shooting. The area was cordoned off, and a forensic team collected evidence from the scene.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to the Mumbai Police Commissioner about the incident and directed a swift investigation and strict action against those responsible, according to sources in the Chief Minister’s Office.
Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar also contacted Shroff’s family to check on his well-being. The actor’s father, Jackie Shroff, later told reporters his son was safe.
Social media post claims responsibility
A video circulating on social media after the shooting showed a man identifying himself as Anil Pandit, who claimed to represent the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and took responsibility for the attack.
A message attributed to Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed they had previously warned Shroff and threatened others in the Mumbai film industry who work with actor Salman Khan.
The authenticity of the claims and any link between the gang and the shooting have not been independently established. Police have not confirmed who was behind the attack.
Earlier attack on Salman Khan
On April 14, 2024, two men on a motorcycle fired shots outside Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Police later registered a case against Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with a Facebook post about the shooting.
Lawrence Bishnoi, who is imprisoned in Gujarat, is known to harbour animosity towards Khan over the actor’s alleged involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan. The blackbuck is revered by the Bishnoi community.
The investigation into Sunday's shooting is ongoing.
