Noctourism, a major travel trend this year, is changing how people explore the world
Dubai has been ranked the third most scenic city globally to explore at night, according to new research by travel experts at Travelbag. The study highlights how noctourism, one of 2025’s biggest travel trends, is reshaping the way people travel. Interest in after-dark adventures has soared, with Google searches for nighttime tourism activities spiking by 164 per cent this year.
Travelbag’s team analysed more than 100 major cities worldwide, measuring Instagram hashtag activity, levels of light and noise pollution, nighttime safety scores, and the number of late-night venues.

Dubai stood out for its blend of safety and style. The city’s glittering skyline and nightlife scene have inspired 29,600 Instagram hashtags. With a strong nighttime safety score of 83 and a moderate light and noise pollution rating of 53, Dubai offers visitors a secure and glamorous setting for nighttime exploration. Its 190 late-night venues may be fewer than in other top cities, but they focus on luxury, elegance, and after-dark experiences.
New York claimed the top spot, with over 40,800 Instagram hashtags showcasing its iconic skyline and a massive 2,300+ late-night venues. Tokyo took second place, earning praise for its balance of low light pollution (score: 46), high safety (75), and vibrant nightlife across nearly 1,000 venues.
Abu Dhabi has been ranked the safest city in the world for exploring after dark, earning a standout nighttime safety score of 87 out of 100 in Travelbag’s global study of long-haul destinations. For travelers who may feel uneasy about venturing out at night in a new city, Abu Dhabi offers peace of mind.
Close behind is Taipei, Taiwan, with a safety score of 85, followed by Dubai at 83 - both solid choices for those seeking secure and enjoyable after-dark experiences.
