The School of Research Science (SRS) has taken a bold step in redefining how mathematics is taught, launching an innovative initiative that breaks traditional barriers in maths education. The Street Maths Initiative, a groundbreaking approach to interactive learning, involved almost two thousand primary school students, who stepped out of their classrooms to apply mathematical concepts in real-world scenarios.

Transformed into an open-air learning environment, designated areas in the school’s car park became dynamic hubs where students tackled curriculum-based questions posed by their teachers. This initiative was designed to develop fluency in key mathematical skills, fostering an inquisitive mindset while allowing students to experience the joy of problem-solving in an open and engaging space.

The scale and impact of the Street Maths Initiative at SRS surpass those of similar efforts seen on the global stage. At SRS, we firmly believe in knowledge for knowledge’s sake—not just as a tool, but as a path to true wisdom and deeper understanding.

Mathematics, often described as the language of the universe, provides insights into the fundamental principles that govern the physical and chemical world. Through Street Maths, students do not just learn numbers, they experience the beauty, elegance, and real-world significance of mathematical concepts. This initiative embodies SRS’s commitment to making learning inspiring, engaging, and deeply meaningful.

A core principle at SRS is ensuring strong connections between foundational knowledge and its practical application. True fluency in mathematics extends beyond memorisation—it requires students to think critically, make connections, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Through direct teaching methods and AI-driven learning platforms, SRS provides multiple opportunities for students to refine their problem-solving skills, reinforcing mathematical fluency throughout the week. The Street Maths Initiative serves as an extension of this learning philosophy—a large-scale, inclusive platform where every child gets the chance to engage in practical problem-solving, build confidence, and see maths come to life.

The resounding success of the Street Maths Initiative follows a series of remarkable achievements by SRS students in regional and global robotics competitions.

Many of our students have excelled in the prestigious Mubarmij Robotics and Engineering Competition, where they have applied meticulously researched engineering principles to design and develop cutting-edge innovations.

With dedicated guidance from SRS’s robotics, coding, and engineering mentors, primary and secondary students have honed their technical skills to compete at elite levels. Their expertise was showcased on both national and global platforms, including competitions in Abu Dhabi and China, where two of our secondary students secured a top place in the global finals.

These outstanding student accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has recognised the exceptional contributions of SRS students in STEM fields.

On 18 February 2025, Aisha Miran welcomed 23 of our high-achieving students to the KHDA headquarters, commending their participation in both local and international competitions. During their visit, students shared insights into the products they developed, the skills they acquired, and the inspiration behind their passion for coding and robotics.

SRS is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of innovators, engineers, and business leaders—students who are not only highly skilled but also confident in navigating a competitive global landscape.

As a leading educational institution in Dubai, SRS offers both the British and American curricula, providing world-class education to over 4,000 students from more than 50 nationalities. The school’s commitment to excellence extends beyond academics, with a dedicated welfare specialist assigned to each year group to support both academic and personal growth.

This aligns with our mission to enlighten young minds with powerful knowledge, equipping them with the expertise, ambition, and leadership qualities needed to drive future economic and technological advancements.

At SRS, we do not just educate students, we empower them to lead, innovate, and shape a brighter future.
