Soaring demand leads Emirates to launch a new Boeing 777-300ER service
Dubai: Amid soaring demand for one of the world’s most beloved island getaways, Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates has announced it will introduce a third daily flight to Mauritius, effective December 1.
This new service, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, will significantly increase seat capacity on the popular route by over 30 per cent, the airline announced Monday.
The world’s largest international airline currently operates two daily services to Mauritius using its flagship A380 aircraft. The addition of the third daily flight, EK709/710, will provide even more convenient flight timings and seamless connectivity for travellers from Emirates’ vast network of over 140 destinations, including the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and the Far East, it added.
The airline plans to actively promote Mauritius in key markets like Japan, China, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
Since launching scheduled services to Mauritius in 2002, Emirates has transported over 8.8 million passengers and more than 126 thousand tonnes of cargo to and from the island.
These operations have generated significant economic and social contributions, including $119 million in direct donations from Emirates’ flights, $264 million in tourism receipts, and $530 million to the Mauritian economy through tourism-related spending. Emirates’ operations have also supported the creation of 3,600 jobs in the nation.
The new flight, EK709, will depart Dubai at 06:55 a.m. and arrive in Mauritius at 1:40 p.m. The return flight, EK710, will depart from Mauritius at 6:30 p.m. and arrive in Dubai at 1:10 a.m. the next day (all times local).
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, said, “We have been proudly serving Mauritius since 2002, and our double daily A380 services have been a major success and contributor to the growth of the country’s tourism industry.”
“The additional daily service on our wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft will enable a more than 30 per cent increase in capacity on the route, while also providing additional flight options for leisure and business travellers to connect to flights seamlessly,” he added.
Emirates, which has a long-standing codeshare partnership with Air Mauritius, recently reaffirmed its commitment to playing a crucial role in promoting the destination globally. “We recently reaffirmed our codeshare partnership with Air Mauritius and our shared commitment to putting the destination on the global stage by facilitating steady growth in tourist demand for visits to Mauritius,” Kazim added. “The additional daily service will allow both airlines to meet demand from global travellers.”
The airline’s success in driving demand is further bolstered by its partnership with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) since 2012, which has enabled collaborative initiatives to showcase Mauritius’ appeal in key markets. Emirates remains the only airline offering A380 services and First Class cabins to the island.
The third daily service will be operated by a three-class Boeing 777-300ER, boosting seat capacity by over 30 per cent on the busy route.
Winning partnership with Air Mauritius contributes to and supports increased demand for Emirates’ services to the Indian Ocean destination.
