Business class passengers alone consumed 9.1 million chocolates
Dubai: Emirates’ passengers have a sweet tooth. They’ve consumed a staggering 60 million pieces of luxury chocolate in the skies over the past year. The airline revealed the impressive figure ahead of World Chocolate Day on July 7, noting the growing connection between the decadent treat and the city of Dubai.
Moreover, the 60 million chocolates consumed across all classes represent a two million increase compared to the previous year, the airline stated in a press release issued on Thursday. Economy Class passengers led the indulgence, consuming 36.6 million individual chocolates.
The newly introduced Premium Economy Class also saw significant demand, with 1.06 million chocolates consumed. Business Class customers savoured 9.1 million chocolates, while First Class passengers, who have access to unlimited selections and can take away their favourite flavours, relished 122,000 large gourmet chocolate boxes, equating to approximately 13.4 million individual pieces.
Emirates partners with renowned chocolatiers worldwide, rotating the onboard selections every six months to keep frequent flyers delighted. Current brands include Coco Jalila from the UAE, Valrhona from France, and Canonica and Neuhaus from Belgium. The selection process takes into account factors such as chocolate type, fillings, taste, texture, brand recognition, current trends, and sustainable sourcing.
Beyond individual chocolates, passengers can also indulge in a variety of chocolate desserts and hot chocolate across all classes. First Class offers options such as pistachio and chocolate mousse cake, as well as warm chocolate fondant. Business Class features vegan onyx avocado chocolate tart, and a creamy banana, mango, and milk chocolate dome.
In Premium Economy, the chocolate mousse cake with a passion fruit core is a popular choice, while Economy Class offers a rich chocolate mousse with classic crème anglaise.
On longer flights, chocolate candy bars are available in snack trays, and children receive chocolate lollipops during festive periods. First-class passengers can also enjoy Lindt 85 per cent dark chocolate from their in-flight goodie baskets. At the A380 Onboard lounge, both vegan and non-vegan chocolate treats like M&Ms and mini chocolate cakes are offered.
