Dubai: Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a digital ticketing service allowing passengers to travel on the Dubai Metro, Tram and public buses using QR codes directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need for paper tickets.

The service enables residents and visitors to purchase digital nol tickets through the nol Pay or S'hail applications and scan them at designated readers across Dubai's public transport network.

Metro passengers can scan their QR codes at the blue entry gates, while bus passengers can validate their tickets by holding their phones over the red nol readers near the entrance. The service is also available on Dubai Tram.

To obtain a ticket, passengers can open either application, select a single-trip ticket or a one-day pass, choose their travel zone or destination and complete the payment. The QR code is then issued instantly and can be accessed directly through the application.

According to the RTA's official service guidance, unused digital QR tickets remain valid for up to 90 days from the date of purchase. Once activated, one-day passes remain valid until midnight on the same day, rather than for a full 24-hour period.

Passengers must scan their digital tickets when checking in and out and keep them accessible throughout their journeys, including during transfers between transport services.
