Dubai: XPRESS readers have opened their hearts and wallets for little Mohammad Hamza whose plight was higlighted by the newspaper last week.
Following our report, scores of readers have stepped forward to fund the Indian child’s treatment. Hamza who turns three next month, suffers from a rare life-threatening condition called atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS).
The disease causes abnormal blood clots to form in small blood vessels in the kidneys. These clots can cause serious medical problems if they restrict or block blood flow, including hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia. If left untreated it can even lead to kidney failure.
Hamza’s mother Mubeena Parveen, 31, who lives in Dubai said she is overwhelmed by the response to the story. “I cannot even begin to tell how grateful I am to all the people who have come forward to help us in our difficult time. Thank you XPRESS and fellow residents, this means a lot to us,” she said.
“My phone has not stopped ringing since April 12 when the report came out.”
Hamza’s father Mohammad Azeem said they have to raise Dh30,000 every few weeks for the child’s medication.
Hamza was diagonsed with aHUS in October 2016 and has since been on life-saving medicine which costs Dh27,980 per dose besides an additional Dh2,000 for lab tests and hospital care.
