DUBAI: Toys ‘R’ Us in the UAE will not shut operations even though the US-based retailer is closing over 800 stores in the US, UK and Canada.

Name change

“Toys ‘R’ Us in the Middle East will not shut down as we have seen a robust growth. Although the parent company maybe closing down, we will continue to serve UAE toddlers and adults,” said the official spokesperson for Al Futtaim Sons that manages the chain in the region.

“However, a name change may happen eventually – this is still undecided.”

According to him, online and e-commerce websites of the global brand will continue to operate.

Al Futtaim manages 21 Toys ‘R’ Us in the Middle East. Of these, 12 are in the UAE. The first store opened in 1995 at Times Square Mall, Al Quoz.

The stores sell toys, game stations, cribs, car seats and select baby care products.
