Abu Dhabi: The sixth edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) will take place from January 13 to 20 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre under the theme ‘Driving the Global Energy Transformation’.

As one of the world’s largest sustainability gatherings, ADSW 2018 will address key global trends that are impacting the shift to sustainable energy including climate change, urbanisation and digitisation.

More than 10,000 delegates including heads of state, government ministers and international trade delegations, local communities as well as the country’s youth will be attending the event.

“ADSW reinforces the country’s strong position in the clean energy, climate and environment sectors and highlights its efforts to develop local talent and attract global expertise to find effective solutions to the most important challenges facing the international community,” said Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

Youth and innovation

The week’s anchor event, the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), will host more than 600 companies from 40 countries. Taking place during the Week is the eighth session of the Irena Assembly where government officials from more than 150 countries will set the global renewable energy agenda and make steps to accelerate the global energy transition. It will also include the sixth International Water Summit, and the fifth EcoWASTE exhibition and conference.

With a strong focus on youth, a student programme will have a dedicated Youth Panel and a Youth Circle which is being run in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs. In addition, the Climate Innovation Exchange (CLIX), will provide emerging entrepreneurs and innovators with the chance to forge partnerships with leading global investors. ADSW has also partnered with Bloomberg New Energy Finance to launch a research focused on technology applications to smarten city transportation and infrastructure.

“This edition will be historic because it coincides with the 100th birth anniversary of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan as well as the 10th anniversary of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, ” said Mohammad Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), which is hosting ADSW.
