What is Rahhal and what are its benefits?

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has launched the Rahhal project as its contribution towards the Dubai 10X initiative. It is the first initiative to be launched under the Dubai 10X project. Rahhal is a flexible and accessible education model providing knowledge, skills and experience to the community at any age.

It recognises that learning can take place both in and outside a classroom, enables learners to build upon their experiences and present them to employers as attested, official proof of their learning history. Under the Rahhal system, even hobbies would be considered legitimate learning - as valid as traditional examinations.

What are the out-of-school learning opportunities students can take up and how?

With Rahhal@IHS, students can choose from academic as well as non-academic career fields. From training for cricket to competitive exams, everything will hold as much value as conventional schooling. The school will also incorporate custom-made programmes to suit the needs of the students enrolled under Rahhal.

How will the students divide time between school work and the out-of-school programmes?

Rahhal@IHS is a facility for our students. It gives them alternative options that suit their needs. So school work, classes, exams etc will be modified as per their schedules.

Will students be graded for these activities?

No, there will be no grading for the activities.

What is the procedure to enroll into Rahhal?

There is an initial round of scrutiny that assesses the authenticity of the application by a student/parent. If approved, the student signs that contract and automatically becomes a part of Rahhal. For a break or absence, the students will have to produce authentic documents from the training camp, school or institute that have to be attested by KHDA.

If for instance a student is undergoing an intensive sports training programme for a period of three months, he or she can sign up for the Rahhal programme and sign out post completion. If a new activity is taken up, they can re-register. This facility can be availed multiple times.

What is the age criteria for students?

Rahhal is open to students of all grades.

What is the ultimate goal of Rahhal?

Rahhal ascertains the statement that learning is beyond the realm of a classroom. It is an avant-garde move that reflects on the future of education in Dubai.
