Dubai: Learning a language and being conversant in it can be two different things for most. To bridge the gap, Alliance Francaise has launched Café Langues at its popular Café Odeon on Oud Metha Road.
As Audrey Beaudeux, marketing coordinator of the language institute, explained, “Café Langues gives you a chance to practice not just French but also other languages outside the classroom and helps you speak in a relaxed atmosphere. It is a language exchange conversation concept and a fun way to practise another language by meeting up with native speakers over a cup of coffee.” She said the sessions cover French, Arabic, English, Spanish or any other language. “Anyone who wishes to become more conversant in a language is welcome to drop by Café Odeon, order tea, coffee, croissants or pastries and join others to practise languages. Sessions are led by native-speaking volunteers who help with the right words. Usually, there is a theme chosen for every session,” said Beaudeux. Two sessions, each lasting for an hour and a half, are held every month. Soon they will be held bi-monthly. The next session will be on June 25 between 9.30 and 11am and 6.30 and 8pm. Admission is free.
