DUBAI: A Dubai-based Irish expat has become the fastest woman to complete 500 classes at one of the world’s toughest bootcamps.
Each class at Barrry’s Bootcamp, which counts celebs like Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian among its legions of fans, is known to burn up to 1,500 calories inside an hour.
Laura Shorthall, 31, said she took just 11 months to clock 500 sessions at Barry’s DIFC studio.
“On some days I did as many as four classes back to back,” said Laura.
A typical workout at Barry’s Bootcamp combines 25-30 minutes of weight training with cardio and alternate bursts of intense anaerobic exercise. It may sound easy but those who have attended Barry’s Bootcamp will tell you that the quick-fire combination of treadmill and strength training can be pretty brutal.
“Overall I spent 27,500 minutes on the treadmill alone and burnt more than 400,000 calories,” said Laura.
Faisal Jami, franchise owner of Barry’s Bootcamp Dubai describe Laura’s feat as astonishing.
“Many of our clients have crossed the 100 mark. But there is no one even remotely close to Laura,” said Jami.
Award-winning personal trainer Ediger Ssentongo said even professional trainers would struggle to go pass the 500 class mark in such a short time.
“We are talking about a very high intensity workout which requires serious effort and commitment,” he said.
