DUBAI: A gym solely dedicated to children opened earlier this month inside the Golden Mile Galleria mall on Palm Jumeirah. Called Little Gladiators, it comes as a huge respite for families living on the Palm as very few kids activities are available there. The nearest such facility is located at the Ibn Battuta mall in Jebel Ali or at Box Park on Al Wasl Road.

Touted to be the first of its kind in the city, the gym boasts a wide range of state-of-the-art training equipment designed for children. It also houses an Aladdin and Jasmine themed spa, hammam bath, tree and mountain climbing walls.

Javed Gani, owner of Little Gladiators, says: “I wanted to develop a ‘one stop shop’ for kids. As a parent, I understand the hassle of driving one to the football session and the other to swimming classes. At Little Gladiators, we have everything under one roof.”

Catering to children between the ages of three to 14, the gym offers daily sessions on wall climbing, circuits, kickboxing, cardio yoga, swimming, gymnastics, weight training and aerobics. “We have some devoted instructors, male and female, to guide kids through these classes,” says Gani. Apart from the work-outs, the gym also hosts birthday parties for kids.

The gym is open from 10am to 8pm and a session here costs from Dh50 to Dh70. The annual membership fee is Dh999. “It’s reasonable deal. You can take part in the workout sessions, use the pool or spa as many times as you like,” says Gani.

The start-up, as Gani claims, comes in line with the Healthy Children 2021 initiative that was undertaken by the government of Dubai earlier this year. According to World Health Organisation, 34 per cent of children in the UAE are obese or overweight. The Healthy Children 2021 aims to reduce the number to 12 per cent in the next four years.
