The bride claims he was not the man she had previously been shown
Dubai: A wedding in Bhadohi, a town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, turned into unexpected drama last week when a bride refused to marry the groom, claiming he was not the man she had previously been shown, News18 reported.
The incident sparked hours of tension between the two families, but ultimately highlighted the bride's courage and clarity in standing her ground.
The festivities had begun with great enthusiasm as the baraat (groom’s procession) was warmly welcomed with traditional garlands, music, and breakfast. The atmosphere was festive, with guests dancing to DJ beats and preparing for the jaimala (garland exchange) ceremony.
However, as the groom took his place on stage and the bride approached, she stopped abruptly and refused to go ahead. She loudly asserted that the groom was a stranger and not the person she had agreed to marry. Despite repeated efforts to convince her, she remained resolute.
The disagreement soon escalated into a heated argument, and a brief scuffle broke out between the families. Police were called to mediate.
After hours of negotiation, the bride’s family released members of the groom’s party, who had been held back during the standoff. The groom ultimately left without a bride.
Locals praised the bride for her firm decision, calling it a bold move against deception.
