Dubai: Police officers in the city of Bangalore have dressed up and positioned mannequins as traffic officers in an attempt to reign in unruly drivers.

Many Bangalorians took to twitter to share pictures of the uniformed mannequins. The police officer decoys are dressed in their uniform, which includes black boots, brown trousers, shirt and cap and even a mask.

BR Ravikante Gowda, a senior traffic officer, told the BBC: “The idea of placing these mannequins at a different location every day is because people behave differently when there is a policeman present at the junction. When he is not there, their behaviour is different.”

According to the Bangalore Traffic Police website, the city’s rising population has caused a corresponding increase in the number of vehicles and a huge increase in the demand on land, so naturally traffic moves very slowly.

To encourage people to follow the rules, Bangalore Police has deployed mannequins to help with the job.
