The woman is currently being investigated for possible tax evasion

It was not a sweet ending for a woman who travelled to Germany.
A 33-year-old woman was stopped by the German customs officials at the Hamburg Airport in December 2024, as they found she was carrying 90 kg of the viral Dubai chocolate.
According to a statement released by the officials on January 8, the woman, who was not named, was subjected to hundreds of euros in import duties.
The Dubai chocolate, which went viral on social media, is filled with pistachios and crispy shredded filo pastry, and is sold for €25 (Dh 94.59) each, in Germany. According to news agency, Reuters, the woman had not declared a total of 460 bars, weighing 200g each, which were distributed among three suitcases.
The officials stated the brand of the confiscated bars was not mentioned, and that they had to be re-exported or destroyed.
According to Singaporean English newspaper, The Strait Times, “the officials believed the bars, valued in total at around €2,100 (Dh 7946), were meant for commercial sale.”
Additionally, the bars were considered a potential health risk, as the packaging did not include information about the ingredients or allergens present in the chocolate.
The woman is currently being investigated for possible tax evasion as she evaded import duties of over €330 (Dh 1248), and will not be arrested, reports mentioned.
