Cairo: Egypt's former vice-president Omar Sulaiman has not dropped a plan to run for president in the forthcoming elections, one of his supporters said on Friday.

"The reports claiming that Sulaiman will not nominate himself for presidency are baseless," said Sa'ad Al Abbasi, who is leading a pro-Sulaiman campaign, told the online newspaper Al Youm Sabaa.

Sulaiman, a veteran spymaster, was appointed a deputy by former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak during a revolt against his 30-year rule earlier this year.

"The pro-Sulaiman campaign continues and we are confident that he will be Egypt's next president in view of an increase in his supporters," Al Abbasi added.

Around 30 Egyptians have already disclosed plans to run for president in elections expected later this year.

Sulaiman has rarely been seen in public since Mubarak was forced to step down in February.
