Dubai: A devastating accident in Egypt’s Sharqia governorate left a family shattered when a father unintentionally ran over and killed his 12-year-old son with his own truck, Akhbar El Yom Arabic daily reported.

According to local reports, the boy was playing near his father’s parked transport truck before seeking refuge from the intense sun by lying beneath the vehicle.  Unaware of his son’s presence, the father later climbed into the truck and drove forward, only to feel the unmistakable jolt of impact moments later.

Realising the horrific truth, the father immediately called for help. Emergency responders rushed the boy to the hospital, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead due to severe injuries.

Egypt’s public prosecution has authorised the burial of the boy’s body and launched an investigation to confirm the circumstances of the incident and rule out any criminal suspicion.
