Arab League condemns Iran’s occupation of UAE islands

Officials entrust Arab Group in New York with task of addressing UN Security Council on Iran’s violations

Cairo: Arab foreign ministers condemned the continued Iranian occupation of the three UAE islands — Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Mousa — in a resolution they issued on Sunday at the end of an emergency meeting in Cairo to discuss Iran’s intervention in Arab countries’ affairs.

The resolution expressed its support for peaceful measures and means the UAE may take to restore sovereignty over its occupied islands as per international law.

The League also entrusted the Arab Group in New York with the task of addressing the UN Security Council on Iran’s violations of Resolution 2231, which relates to its development of a ballistic missile programme. It highlighted the fact that Tehran posed a grave threat to Arab national security.

The Council vehemently condemned the ballistic missile fired by Iranian-backed Al Houthi militia in Yemen earlier this month that was intercepted near the Saudi capital, terming the attack as a “flagrant aggression” against Saudi Arabia and

a “threat” to Arab national security.

The Council also denounced all acts of terror perpetrated by Iran in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the latest of which is the bombing of a Bahraini oil pipeline, labelling it as a terrorist act by a group supported by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the terrorist organisation Hezbollah.

The council also decided to ban all Iran-funded satellite channels broadcast on Arab satellites for instilling hatred and sectarian seditions.
