Al Sissi holds first public meeting with Netanyahu

Egyptian president says he wants to assist in peace efforts during a meeting that last 90 minutes

Dubai: Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he wants to assist in efforts to achieve between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab region.

The two leaders met in New York on Monday—their first ever public meeting—and spoke for and hour and a half.

The men had met secretly twice in 2016 and spoke on the phone periodically.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
