Beirut: A Lebanese television journalist who was abducted by a rebel group last week in northern Syria has been freed, the Lebanese private broadcaster LBCI reported.
Fida Itani, who works for LBCI, is now in the Lebanese embassy in Turkey, according to the report.
Itani’s abduction was claimed by a rebel group calling itself the Northern Storm Brigade.
The group said in a statement that Itani had been captured in the rebel-held town of Aazaz in northern Syria, after he had raised suspicions for taking pictures of an area where rebels had key positions.
The same group has claimed responsibility for kidnapping 11 Lebanese Shiite pilgrims, who were returning from Iran in August.
Two of the pilgrims were released last month, while the others remain in captivity.
The group has demanded an apology from the chief of Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah movement for openly supporting the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad in quelling the uprising.
