Dubai: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has ordered the withdrawal of Shtine drinking bottled water from the local market after the water was found to contain excessive amounts of bromate, a chemical formed during disinfection of water.

The authority has warned the public against consuming Shtine bottled water and urged them to immediately dispose them. The Shtine bottled water is manufactured by the Najd Springs Manufacturing Company in Al Zulfi Governorate. Tests revealed that Shtine water contained bromate levels exceeding the maximum permissible limits.

The SFDA confirmed that all sizes, batch numbers, and expiration dates of Shtine water are affected. It also ordered the company to halt production at its factory and immediately recall the product from the market to safeguard public health.

Emphasising the urgency of the decision, the authority strongly cautioned consumers against drinking or using the product and advised discontinuation of its use. It urged the public to stay informed and follow updates provided by the SFDA for further details.

The decisive measure highlights the SFDA's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of food and water across the Kingdom.
