Cairo: An “accidental explosion” took place early Wednesday at a yard for storing ammunition remnants in Saudi Arabia, causing no casualties, a Saudi defence official said.

The blast occurred at 5.10am at the yard allocated for assembling and destroying unusable ammunition remnants outside the city of Al Kharj southeast of the capital Riyadh, the spokesman for the Saudi Defence Ministry Brig Turki Al Maliki said. The cause of the blast was not immediately clear.

“No injuries or losses have resulted. Competent agencies are handling the accidental happening,” he added, according to the Saudi news agency SPA.
