Two men, aged 21 and 50, held on suspicion of involvement
A Saudi student was stabbed to death on Friday evening in a park south of Cambridge, UK, police have confirmed. The incident has triggered an ongoing investigation, with two men arrested so far, according to a report by Al Ekhbariya TV.
The victim, identified as Mohammed Yousef Al Qassim, was attacked at around 11:30pm (local time) while returning to his residence. He suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck and died at the scene. Al Qassim was studying at a language institute in Cambridge.
EF International Language School in Cambridge has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss of one of its students. “We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our students sustained fatal injuries on Friday evening in a public place,” the school said. The institution added that it is cooperating fully with local authorities as investigations continue and is providing support to students and staff affected by the incident.
Cambridgeshire Police said in a statement that two suspects, aged 21 and 50, have been taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the killing. Both remain in custody as detectives work to determine the motive and circumstances surrounding the assault.
Authorities described the investigation as being in its early stages and have appealed to witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
The incident has shocked members of the student community in Cambridge and beyond.
