Saudi-Iran tweet ‘a fake’

London: A Twitter message apparently sent by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah on Thursday, referring to a conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, was a fake, a source in the Gulf said on Thursday.

According to the account, the monarch said he had had an “important phone conversation” with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. It gave no details.

Some oil traders had taken it as suggesting increased cooperation among OPEC members ahead of the group’s meeting next week.

The source said of the account: “It’s a fake”.
