Saudi Charity continues aid work in Somalia

Riyadh: The International Islamic Relief Organization in Saudi Arabia has distributed over 8 million kilograms of food, clothes and medicine to famine victims in Somalia.

Dr. Adnan Bin Khalil Basha, the head of the organization announced on Thursday that IIROSA will continue its relief efforts while warning that the spread of famine to other parts of the country could be even more disastrous. He called on regional and international charity organizations to expedite help to the Somali people before its too late.

"The world should move quickly to help the people of Somalia before the disaster snowballs, becomes difficult to contain and spreads to neighboring countries including Kenya, where more than 400,000 Somali immigrants have sought refuge looking for food and water as well as Ethiopia and Djibouti," he said.

"Over the few past years, IIROSA sent 25 relief caravans to Somalia which benefitted more than 3.9 million people," he explained.

Dr. Basha estimated the number of children suffering from malnutrition in Somalia to be around five million and said it is a humanitarian and an ethical duty to rescue these children before it is too late especially that their country is passing through difficult circumstances at present.
