Saudi Arabia intercepts missile above Riyadh

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's air defense forces intercepted a missile above the capital Riyadh, Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya said on Wednesday after several loud booms were heard in the city centre.

In recent months, the Al Houthi armed movement in neighbouring Yemen, where Saudi Arabia-led coalition is participating in a three-year-old military campaign, have targeted Riyadh several times with missiles.

Numerous Al Houthi missiles had been shot down by Saudi forces in recent weeks.
