Cairo: Saudi authorities have destroyed over 2 million items of counterfeit and copycat goods, according to online newspaper Ajel has reported.

The items had been seized by the Saudi Customs at the kingdom’s land, sea and air outlets in cooperation with other partners in protecting intellectual property rights, according to the report.

The General Customs Authority had hired a company specialised in handling the destruction of the counterfeit products to head off negative effects of the traditional methods that contradict the environment protection system applied in Saudi Arabia.
