The Criminal Court in Turaif in the Northern Borders Region ordered a Saudi citizen, who was convicted of car theft, to harvest olive trees as an alternative punishment with regard to the public right, local media reported.

In its judgment, the court said the convict should pick olives from 20 trees planted along public streets under the supervision of the municipality of Turaif governorate.

The convict will have to pick olives in the presence of representatives from the police and the Ministry of Agriculture within a month from the date of issuing the judgment.

The convict shall be jailed six days for each tree in the event of his failure to carry out the punishment.
