Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s customs authorities have approved a decision banning the import of used vehicles older than five years, local media reported.

Only used vehicle manufactured in 2016 and above will be allowed to be imported, the Saudi Customs said in a tweet yesterday.

“Additionally, the imported vehicle must conform with Saudi specifications and standards, and the fuel economy standards,” the Saudi Customs said, adding that customs duties of 5 per cent of the vehicle value, together with 15 per cent value-added tax will be applied. Apparently the ban does not cover spare parts for old vehicles in use.

Earlier last February, the Saudi General Authority of Customs announced that Saudi citizens and GCC nationals in Saudi Arabia have the right to import two private vehicles a year, while other residents have the right to import only one private car every three years.
