A Saudi air force F-15 fighter jet crashed Thursday during training in eastern Saudi Arabia, killing its pilot, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

The plane was on training as part of Gulf Arrows II, maneuvers conducted at the King Abdul Aziz air base with the air forces of Saudi Arabia's allies on the six-state Gulf Cooperation Council.

The pilot, 1st Lt. Mohammed Ahmed al-Kibaibi, was killed, the Defense Ministry said in comments carried by the official Saudi Press Agency. No damage on the ground was reported.

An investigation of the crash was underway.
