The arrivals surge 30% as more than 1.2m pilgrims enter Saudi Arabia from 109 countries
Dubai: More than 1.2 million Umrah pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia since the start of the current season on Dhul Hijjah 15 (June 21), the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced on Thursday.
The ministry reported a 30 per cent increase in arrivals on Umrah visas compared to the same period last year, with pilgrims entering the Kingdom from 109 countries. It also noted a 27 per cent year-on-year rise in the number of Umrah visas issued.
In a statement, the ministry attributed the surge to improved operational efficiency and integrated services, building on the momentum of what officials described as a successful Hajj season. Over 4,200 contracts have been signed between local Umrah companies and overseas agents, strengthening the infrastructure to support the growing number of pilgrims.
The season officially began on Dhul Hijjah 14, with visa services facilitated through Nusuk, the Kingdom’s digital platform for pilgrimage services. Pilgrims have been able to book appointments and access services in multiple languages via the platform since Dhul Hijjah 15.
According to the ministry, early coordination with relevant authorities enabled a smooth start to the season, supported by enhancements in digital content, hospitality services, and safety standards.
