The event, titled ‘And What Lies Between,’ will run from January 25 to May 25, 2025

Dubai: The Diriyah Biennale Foundation has announced that the 2025 edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale will, for the first time, feature a full display of the Kaaba cover, known as the Kiswa.
The event, titled ‘And What Lies Between,’ will run from January 25 to May 25, 2025, at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
The Kiswa exhibit will highlight its historical evolution, artistic engravings, and intricate craftsmanship, offering visitors a detailed exploration of its silk and gold embroidery.
The presentation aims to provide an immersive experience, shedding light on the exceptional artistry and skill involved in creating the iconic fabric.
In addition to the Kiswa, the upcoming biennale will showcase an extensive collection of Islamic historical artifacts and contemporary art pieces.
Building on the success of its inaugural edition in 2023, themed ‘First House,’ which drew over 600,000 visitors, the event has established itself as the world’s second-most attended biennale.
The Diriyah Biennale Foundation stated that it aims to deepen public understanding of the craftsmanship behind the Kaaba cover while emphasising Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in serving Islam and Muslims.
The Kiswa is crafted at the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa in Mecca. After the biennale, the Kiswa will return to the care of the King Abdulaziz Complex.
The display also marks the centenary of the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa, established in 1346 AH (1927 CE). The complex has been exclusively responsible for producing the Kaaba’s Kiswa since its inception.
