Indian expat from Kerala's Idukki dies in Riyadh after air conditioner blast

Dubai: A 36-year-old Indian expatriate from Kerala’s Idukki district succumbed to injuries sustained in an air conditioner compressor explosion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The victim, Ziyad Basheer, a longtime resident of Manjali and originally from Randupalam, Thodupuzha, had been working as a private driver for a Saudi citizen for the past seven years.

The incident occurred at approximately 2pm on Friday, when an AC compressor suddenly exploded, leaving Ziyad with severe burns.

He was rushed to the intensive care unit at Al Mouwasat Hospital, located near Exit 9 in Riyadh, where he remained under critical care for two days. Despite medical efforts, he died at around 2:10pm on Sunday.

His body was transferred to the hospital morgue and is scheduled to be buried at the Naseem Al Salam Mausoleum in Riyadh on Monday afternoon.

Ziyad is survived by his wife and daughter, both of whom reside in Kerala.
