Haj 2020: Pilgrims to receive prayer rugs in sealed and sanitized bags

Dubai: The 10,000 pilgrims who perform Haj rituals will receive prayer mats in sealed and sterilized bags, as part of coronavirus precautionary measures and health protocols to ensure the safety of pilgrims, local media said on Tuesday.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has prepared sterilised payer rugs in line with the Kingdom’s efforts to provide safe and smooth services to pilgrims performing this year’s Haj, which starts tomorrow (Wednesday).

The move also comes as an extension of services provided for pilgrims and as a continuation of efforts to implement the highest precautionary standards and preventive measures to protect pilgrims.

This year’s pilgrimage is restricted to only 10,000 pilgrims of all nationalities from within the Kingdom who already arrived in the holy city of Mecca to perform pilgrimage rites. Umrah will remain suspended until further notice.
