Manama: The interior ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held a meeting in the Saudi capital on Wednesday, sources said.
The visions of the GCC regarding the protection, stability and security of the Gulf member countries topped the agenda of the talks.
The ministers also reviewed the GCC support for regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
Lt. General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, led the UAE delegation.
The GCC interior ministers discussed a number of issues related to the security in the GCC states and recommendations of security committees as well as other issues of mutual concerns.
The GCC is an alliance of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
At their meeting in November in the Qatari capital Doha, the ministers signed an agreement to set up the headquarters of the GCC-POL, the regional police force in Abu Dhabi.
The Interpol-like force inside the six GCC countries will improve regional cooperation against terrorism, officials said.
The GCC-POL aims to enhance coordination between GCC police services, share information, and counter cross-border and organised crime.
The force will help coordinate efforts across the region and share knowledge and information among other relevant security authorities.
The decision to set up the force was adopted in accordance with decisions of GCC Ministers of Interiors who met in Kuwait in November 2014, as well as the Supreme Council of the GCC meeting held in December 2014.
