Manama: Saudi social network users have called for tough legal action against poachers who reportedly massacred gazelles for fun.

The blogosphere was flooded with messages of anger and frustration after pictures and video clips of the gazelles were posted on Tuesday.

The endangered animals were believed to have been shot down by poachers after they escaped from a reserve in the central region of the country and fled towards valleys, local news Sabq reported.

Online users stressed the inhumane attitude of the poachers and singled out three men who boasted in a video clip about the hunting trip.

Several voices called for overall action that would include the reserves and would boost programmes to save and preserve endangered animals.

Most comments agreed that strict legal procedures had to be launched to ensure that the massacre would not be repeated.
