Abu Dhabi: Seven people were killed on the spot, while a child was seriously injured, resulting in a cardiac and pulmonary arrest and later died following a fatal rear-end collision on the Hodon road, Ta’if, Saudi Arabia, police said.

The accident occurred at 3am on Saturday, when a vehicle crashed into a truck from behind, and the vehicle was trapped under the truck, which led to the detention of the passengers, the police added.

Five paramedic teams in the Saudi Red Crescent ambulances were immediately sent to the accident scene.

Eight passengers in the car were released by the civil defense teams and the Red Crescent paramedics, who found that seven passengers were killed instantly, while the child suffered severe injuries.

Paramedics attempted to rescue the child, who suffered cardiac and pulmonary arrest. He was rushed to the hospital, but was later declared dead, police said.

Police are investigating the causes of the accident, but generally rear-end crashes are blamed on driver’s inattention, tailgating, panic stops or reduced traction due to wet weather, police said.
