Cairo: Saudi authorities have announced expanding the distribution of Zamzam holy water to cover all areas of the kingdom, the Saudi news agency SPA reported Sunday.

Previously all distribution outlets of the blessed water that originates in the holy city of Mecca were shut down as part of Saudi precautions against the spread of the new coronavirus.

The Zamzam standard containers of five litres will soon be available across the kingdom to meet high demand during the holy month of Ramadan under anti-coronavirus precautions, according to officials.

The General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques has cited an increase in the number of retailers authorised to distributed the Zamzam containers at their branches across the kingdom, SPA reported. The nationwide distribution will gradually begin from this week.

“The National Water Company (NWC) has been keen in the recent period to increase the number of retailing firms and finalise the necessary contractual obligations in coordination with relevant agencies to remove all obstacles and offer the services to beneficiaries,” the company’s CEO Mohammad Al Mowkley said.

He added that an electronic platform will be unveiled next week to remotely make orders for the Zamzam containers.

“These temporary solutions have come in partnership and cooperation with the General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques in view of the current circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic and to give an easy access for those interested in obtaining the blessed water,” he added.
