Cairo: Acclaimed Saudi Islamic scholar and historic Mohammed Bin Saad has passed away at 81, local media reported. He was buried in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday.

His death triggered an outpouring of tributes for his dedicated efforts to promote moderate Islamic precepts and his writings on Islamic history.

The late scholar, who served for long as an advisor to Saudi Arabia’s Mufti, is remembered for his stances against militants.

MA and PhD degrees

Born in the Saudi province of Shaqra in 1940, Bin Saad obtained his university degree from the Faculty of Arabic Language in Riyadh. He later got MA and PhD degrees in Arabic literature and criticism from the University of Al Azhar in Egypt.

He worked as a teacher and held several education jobs in the kingdom. He also worked as an advisor to the head of the general presidency for scholarly research, Iftaa and religious guidance and as an editor of the “Islamic Research” magazine.

He was awarded several prizes and honours in recognition of his cultural contributions inside his homeland and from abroad.
