The US embassy in Qatar has urged American citizens to take shelter.

“Out of an abundance of caution we recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice,” the embassy said.

The embassy also listed the emergency numbers in Qatar that US citizens can contact: 999 for emergency services, 919 for support if someone is affected by domestic violence. In an emergency, US citizens can reach the consular section after-hours at +974-4496-6000.

Earlier today, the United States said it has maintained its level 2 travel advisory for the UAE, urging American citizens to "exercise increased caution" when travelling to the region. This advisory, routinely reviewed and updated, has been in place since January 6 this year and is primarily due to ongoing regional tensions.

While the UAE is generally considered a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors alike, the US State Department said that regional developments have heightened the risk of attacks targeting US citizens and interests.

Despite the advisory, the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai remain fully operational, indicating no change in their security posture.

For American travellers planning a trip to the UAE, the Level 2 advisory means being aware of heightened risks and taking proactive measures. It is not a "do not travel” warning but a recommendation to be more vigilant.

Worldwide caution

On June 22, 2025, the Department of State issued a worldwide caution security alert advising US citizens overseas to exercise increased caution.

"The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against US citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State advises U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution," a statement said.
