Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health announced 833 new confirmed coronavirus cases, pushing the country’s total infections to 9,358 and the active cases to 8410, Qatar News Agency reported.

The ministry also reported the recovery of 120 people, taking to 929 the total number of patients who have recovered. The death toll still standing at 10.

Qatar has been stepping up its efforts to contain the outbreak by conducting thousands of tests. So far, it has conducted 79,705 tests; 3,817 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.

Most of the new cases are expatriate workers who have mingled with previously discovered cases, as well as to workers from outside the industrial area who were detected after being tested by the ministry.

The remainder of new cases are among the citizens and residents who have contracted the virus from members of their families, who in turn had contracted the virus from their workplaces or other places where they were exposed to infected people.

All the new cases have been quarantined and are receiving the necessary medical care, the ministry said in a statement issued today.

The first case in the country was confirmed on February 27, but the number of cases began to rise steeply from mid-March onwards, beginning with the announcement of 238 new cases in a single day on March 11.
