Muscat: A Yemeni fishing dhow Mahara with six persons on board has been rescued by the European Union Naval Force warship FS Guepratte.

The EU Navfor warship FS Guepratte approached a Yemeni fishing dhow in distress at sea on Friday while patrolling the waters in south of Oman.

“EU Navfor warship FS Guepratte has been towing the Yemeni fishing vessel all night and awaits relief from Omani authorities,” said a statement emailed to Gulf News from the EU Navor.

According to the statement, Mahara, which has lost her propeller, seemed to have engine problems and had been drifting for seven days.

Both Yemeni and Omani coast guard have been contacted.

“Since EU Navfor warship FS Guepratte is tasked for patrolling the transit corridor in the Gulf of Aden, a relief would be welcome,” the statement added.
