Muscat: A drug smuggling attempt, a third one in recent weeks, has been foiled in Musandam by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

A press release said the squad from the Drug Control Department foiled smuggling of more than 57,000 pills of drugs and narcotic substances.

The department got a tip off that a man from a neighbouring country would arrive in Musandam to hand in a large amount of drugs to two citizens in different locations.

The ROP learned that one of the two suspects travelled to another GCC state and arrested him, while the other suspect was arrested in Musandam, which borders with Fujairah .

It was established during interrogation of the two suspects that they had already received the narcotics from a drug trafficker who managed to import the drugs, hide them and pass them on to the two suspects.

The ROP searched the areas specified during the interrogation and found large amounts of narcotic substances at Khasab Port.

After the drugs were identified, the two suspects were transferred to the Public Prosecution Department to prepare for their trial.

The Drug Control Department at the Directorate General of Criminal Investigations in Muscat also arrested a man in Al Khoudh area on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The man was found to be in possession of large quantities of drugs and narcotic substances.
