Muscat: Noted Tunisian artist Nja Mahadaoui will hold an exhibition at Bait Al Muzna Gallery in Muscat from September 28 to October 28, the gallery owner said.

Mahadaoui is described as a “choreographer of letters” and an explorer of signs. He is considered as a notable Arab contemporary artist.

His work, inspired by Arab calligraphy, is described as remarkably innovative as the aesthetic dimension of letters brings forth a sense of the poetic and highly rhythmic, rich, abstract compositions.

Shaikh Hamad Bin Hilal Bin Ali Al Maamari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, is to open the exhibition.

Mahadaoui has illustrated legendary myths, tales and manuscripts. His illustrated stories from the "Thousand and One Nights" tales have been the subject of an acclaimed French edition, thus reminding us how the influence of Arab literature and culture on our world is immense.

He has designed large artworks for the international airports of Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and for Gulf Air aircraft.

His works have also been represented in international art fairs in Basel, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Mahadaoui's works have been exhibited around the world, and can be found in many private and public collections such as at the British Museum and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
