Muscat: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed has pardoned 272 prisoners convicted in a variety of cases on the occasion of Renaissance Day, the Oman Royal police (ORP) said in a statement on Monday.

Renaissance Day, celebrated annually on July 23, marks the day when Qaboos ascended to the throne in Oman in 1970 and has since remarkably developed the country.

The royal pardon includes 88 foreign convicts, according to the ORP statement.

“The noble pardon by His Majesty marks the occasion of the blessed Renaissance Day and shows care for families of those inmates,” the statement said.
